13: The Drive-by
1. According to my friend Jamie, if I blog about you, you can say “Hey, I’ve just been loose leaf noted.”
2. What do Elvis, Sheryl Crow and Porky Pig have in common? Click on THIS, THIS and THIS for the answer.
3. Speaking of blue, I learned about Slender Man and “What does the fox say?” from my 5 year grandson Bryce, and he and his 3 year old brother Liam learned about Blue Meanies from me. Now both of them are singing We All Live in a Yellow Submarine and Nowhere Man.
4. Not only do we sit on Santa’s lap like we sit on the therapist’s couch and tell him what we want, he asks if we’ve been bad or good, like any good psychoanalyst would.
5. It pays to listen to NPR: This week I learned about a Jazz quartet named Mostly Other People Do the Killing, and that skis are older than the wheel.
6. I also learned from listening to the People’s Pharmacy’s interview with Dr. Perlmutter, author of Grain Brain, that for 99.9% of our time on earth our diet has been high fat and protein and low carbohydrate, and that 50% of the fat in breast milk is saturated, which goes against current mainstream’s party line that fat is a culprit. Dr. Perlmutter argues that a high-fat diet that includes healthy animal products and limits carbohydrates promotes brain health and can help stave off depression and ADHD, and especially dementia. This is similar to the points that Dr. Schwarzbein makes in The Schwartzbein Principle, in which she links high insulin levels (primarily caused by high-carbohydrate, lowfat diets) to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, oxidative stress, depression, eating disorders and obesity.
7. The most often searched question of 2013? According to Google, and as reported by NBC Nightly News, the answer is ‘what is twerking?’ The most searched for ‘how to?’ question was ‘how do you tie a tie and the most searched for term in the world this year was ‘Nelson Mandela.’
8. A few things you might not know about me: I studied iridology, did runway modeling on a couple of occasions and was once asked to read erotic poetry at a sex toy party.
9. My initials spell CAR.
10. When I was a girl I had a reoccurring fantasy of driving around in the back seat of a black car and passing out sandwiches to poor kids.
11. Writing short poems is a lot like trying to hit a nail on the head. One false move and the nail bends and won’t hold the weight of the frame.
12. An art installation you’ll want to live in HERE.
13. A short poem that features a hammer HERE.

Re #11: For me, writing small poems is like trying to drive a nail with my forehead.

I had to look up twerking a month ago after hearing jokes about it. Hey, autocorrect hasn’t heard about it yet! It kept changing the word to tweaking.

Great notes, Colleen. (I cracked up from the beginning with the first one. LOL). And I agree with what you said about poetry too. Sometimes for me it’s harder to write a poem than a short story. I hope you’re having a great weekend.
