The 13 Morning Commute
1. Today I ran over a submarine sandwich in the road and was glad it wasn’t a squirrel.
2. And then we sang THIS.
3. If Hillary wins the presidency and enlists Elizabeth Warren for VP, it will be sort of like Tina Fey and Amy doing the Weekend Update.
4. My new blog motto: When in doubt, post pretty pictures. Like THIS.
5. Love and hate last longer, and love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside. – Lin-Manuel Miranda at the Tony Awards addressing the recent mass murders at a gay nightclub in Orlando
6. Who’d have thought that on Monday morning I’d be counting the amount of times poet Lin-Miranda said “and love is love is love” during his onstage acceptance speech for the play Hamilton. (9 – Watch HERE.)
7. At the Little River Poetry Festival that I attended last weekend, featured poet Tanya Cunningham enlisted the help of her husband for the first poem of her reading, which was about teaching her 16 year-old son that “doing 62 in a 55 can be a life of death situation” for young black men and included the refrain, “May I reach for my registration? I am reaching for my registration.” I still get goosebumps. Watch HERE.
8. I woke up worrying about lovers / abandoned by the loves of their lives / and blonde-haired children in Spiderman suits / who don’t understand / I imagined people on planes / on their way to Australia / I tried but couldn’t see their faces / buried in magazines … Read more of Morning Commute HERE.
9. I began my sharing at our most recent in woman’s dialogue circle, saying, “I’ve recently had a breakthrough … As I woke up and got out of bed, I spontaneously said out loud to myself, “I’m starting to get the hang of this.”
10. “Until you can trust the downward process, the Great Mystery cannot fully overtake you. It’s largely a matter of timing. Some of us put it off until the last hour of life. But the sooner you can do it, the better. Almost all spirituality teaches you the secret of dying before you die. If you can face your mortality and let go of this small self early on, you’ll experience heaven here and now.” From Richard Rohr’s Daily Meditation
11. Seen on Facebook: “Can I get 2 boxes of Sudafed?” “Sorry, by law you can only buy one at a time.” “Okay t hen just one box of Sudafed and these 7 guns.”
12. Asked on Tuesday to comment on Morning Joe about the 53 Republican Senators who voted against a bill that would have prohibited people on the terror watch list from buying guns, NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton said, “Shame on them. They are totally beholden — they prostitute themselves in front of the NRA. They are putting the interest of their own political careers and that of the NRA ahead of the American people.” Watch HERE.
13. At some point in life, the world’s beauty becomes enough. —Toni Morrison

and what is conservative America thinking? who needs an assault weapon in his/her home? who stands to lose if background checks are strengthened and enforced?

I’m very selfish about things like the attack on the gay night club. My first thought was a prayer that my gay friend in Florida wasn’t there that night. Looks like he’s fine. I’m relieved even as I sympathize with those who aren’t.

I recently saw ‘In the Heights’ which was the predecessor to Hamilton and a fun and high energy show, here in London. They used part of Kings Cross railway station to stage it.
I just notice that we’re finally to get Hamilton over here as well, but not until October!

I love this! Love the sandwich/squirrel… cause I would totally feel the same way. Sudafed/guns — it’s absurd! 13 — AMEN!

Do we want to know what a sandwich was doing in the road? And, as you may have noticed, number four has long been my motto. Today’s post is a good example.

#11 certainly is true. And now they are making it more difficult for people like me to get pain killers, but I guess it’ll be okay if I decide I want to relieve my pain permanently one day. We sure are a screwed up bunch of people.
And I use the photo-thing too. People seem to like them. I get more hits on the pictures than most things I write. But maybe it is what I write and not the other way around.

I got a glimpse a few times of the love is love guy, on the news. I didn’t really know who he was or that he is a poet.
3 things happened in that town this week. unbelievable.
