13: Dropped the Ball
1. On Wednesday, I pulled up the covers and took a sick day.
2. America, I don’t recognize you.
3. The election caused Canada’s immigration site to crash, the Dow to fall lower than it had after 9/11 and my jaw to drop.
4. “This is not just an election, this is an American Rorschach inkblot test… the result tells more about the “patient” than it does about the blot.” – Quoting my friend Jeff Walker
5. When I finally got up Wednesday, I spent some time on Facebook and asked a couple Trump supporters to please not gloat. I asked a few non-Trump supporters not to give advice on how I should feel better. It’s too soon.
6. Another friend posted the lyrics to a Neil Young song, and that did seem to help: “Don’t let it bring you down. It’s only castles burning. Find someone who’s turning. And you will come around.”
7. The word Trumpery derives from the Middle English trompery and ultimately from the Middle French tromper, meaning “to deceive. Trumpery first appeared in English in the mid-15th century with the meanings “deceit or fraud” and “worthless nonsense.” Less than 100 years later, it was being applied to material objects of little or no value. The verb phrase trump up means “to concoct with the intent to deceive,” but there is most likely no etymological connection between this phrase and trumpery.
8. I call the photo to the right “Too Close for Comfort” because that’s my hammock and we lost two chickens to that intruder the day before. Aka: Not a Black Dog.
9. Remember when we used to wear coats? HERE
10. I recently saw a Christmas tree with pink pumpkins all around it, and as far as holidays go, I didn’t know if I was coming or going. Later I found out it was for something for breast cancer, but still?
11. “I half expected him to pull out a red cape like a matador at a bull fight. Joe thought a cane would have been a good accessory for his look. He wore two-toned wingtip boots, a light suit with a stripe down the side and a Mississippi steam boat straw hat. “Crooner” was the first thought that came to mind. At times, I felt like I was watching a lounge act in a jazz club with a full moon shining through a window.” – Read more about the Bob Dylan concert I recently went to in Roanoke HERE.
12. “Beware of what you avoid and what you cling to.” –Mary Karr

she won ‘our’ vote by a comfortable margin. I have never understood the point of the electoral college, it has broken more hearts…

This is the first time I’ve come out of an election feeling ill because of the results. I never thought anyone really took him seriously. My mistake.

Someday, when the stars move and align, we’ll actually have a full democracy. Until that time we’ll have skewed outcomes and glory hogs announcing two days before an election that they aren’t going to cast their elector’s vote for the candidate they represent.

Your response:

#2. America, I don’t recognize you.
#13. Remember, she won the popular vote.
My response:
I wore all black on Wednesday: pants, top, and shoes. No color at all. No accessories. It feels to me like our country has died.

I had a very bad sick day yesterday; so far the morning is not looking much better. I don’t drink but I have a heck of a hangover.
I think wearing black, like Bonnie’s Books up there, will be the color for me for a very long time (4 years).

Number 13 isn’t much solace. I didn’t want to get up yesterday, either, or go to work last night. No surprise we were as slow last night as we were on election night. Dead dead dead. Will be interesting to see how this holiday season goes compared to last. :-\ My T13

I’m grateful you are still doing the Thursday Thirteen. Your lists are always things of beauty, even when their messages are full of woe. 🙁
