Not Your Grandmother’s Thursday at Floyfest 17
In the VIP tent, we watched a woman get a pie in the face while trying to win a lottery ticket challenge. I found my Floyd dance friend StarRoot (who also had an art booth on site) and we danced a few songs to Gote, just one of the bands that our friend John McBroom is in.
We tasted some out-of-this-world moonshine handcrafted in Floyd by our friend Kerry Underwood from Five Mile Mountain Distillery. Vanilla Plum Dreamcycle and Elderberry Lemonade. Not your grandfather’s moonshine!
And there’s always beautiful people to meet, new and old friends.
My new BF is a butterfly.
A butterfly is a girl’s best friend. It’s also this year’s festival logo mascot, along with the Freedom theme.
We spent a lot of time in the Butterfly Dome and then checked out the best in butterfly gear.
Check out this “badass butterfly” in the main field that our fabricator friend Joey Kaylor made.
Everything at Floydfest is a photo-op.
And there is always a discovery of a new favorite band (The Dead 27’s, listen HERE).

I made it on-site just in time to hear our festival co-founder and friend Erika Johnson speak at the Hoot and Holler Freedom-themed storytelling stage at the Speakeasy. Listen to a clip HERE.

They don’t call it Trip Hop for Nothing. I couldn’t catch the guy in Thievery Corporation marching with his guitar around the stage with my camera if my life depended on it. But you can watch him HERE.
