Pink
I want a pink blow-up raft
to drift carefree
in a body of water I belong to
Not like a stone skipping in and out
plummets to the bottom when it’s done
I want a pink raft more
than a girl wants a Barbie doll
or a pink poodle skirt of quilted satin
I need it more than the pink diary
with the lock broken off
or the pink suede purse
I stole from my sister
I want to fall softly
like a single strand of hair
lands on a mirror and sticks
Like the windswept curl
that drops across your cheek
and you lift your finger
to put it back in place
I want you to hold me
while I lie on my back
and float like a petal
gently down the stream
like a baby in a cradle
not left to sink or swim

I want this pink floater, too. I didn’t know that until I read this poem. Thank you.

What a peaceful poem…I would like to float downstream in a blow-up raft as well. No greater joy on a mid summer day..as I imagine it, as you wrote it. And to be with one loved would be even more wonderful.

I love all the pink delights in this poem, especially the poodle skirt, which I had forgotten about, till you reminded me.

“I want you to hold me

Yes, I’ve just done a serious amount of cooing after reading those lines. They’re that delicious.
