13: Call of the Wild
1. Marco Island, Florida, is like Aruba without the plane ride.
2. Trudging across the beach sand, I couldn’t decide if it was like being in the Sahara or the Arctic because the sand was snow white. See HERE.
3. I woke up this morning and saw a small piece of tissue on the floor and thought it was a sand dollar.
4. The birds of Venice Beach screech, tweet, laugh and wobble, which is like a gobble done in water. Listen below.
5. Me: “Siri, find flamingos near me.”
6. We’re awakened in the country by crowing of roosters and in the Gulf of Florida it’s the scream of limpkins that might wake you in morning or in the middle of the night. Listen HERE.
7. I brake for panthers HERE.
8. I brake for orchids HERE.
9. An alligator named Goliath lives the pond at the entrance of our friend’s community in Venice Beach.
10. Gated or gatored communities?
11. On Marco Island there are little burrowing owls that environmentalists were protecting as they were watching their buried nests all day. Learn more HERE.
12. Slug may be the mutant plural for when I’m tired and have to when lug myself around.
13. Ice storms mean no ice cream, in that the power goes out and melts it.

Ohhhhhh… this was a super relaxing post. I’m tired of the cold, white and grey. Sitting back and enjoying these photos, I felt like I was on a little stroll with you. Ahhh… thank you.

Looks pleasant and relaxing. Except for the melted ice cream part.

That actually happened before we left and had power out on and off for days. Now we have trees down all over our property and it’s back to that reality.

Forget South Beach and Disney World. I want to visit the Everglades and the Keys (or are they the same?) if I ever make it to Florida. You had fun!

I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed every post in your getaway series. Starting with your pickup camper, a perfect way to travel these days (and bringing memories of one we had years ago), to each and every three hour tour and stops you made. You packed a ton of fun into your Florida stay. we’ve visited each of those places (our canal cottage is on the low-rent end of the same area as Naples) but i think it took us years to get to all of them instead of days! Loving all the pictures and memories, glad you loved it, and wishing it weren’t so far from Oregon.
