13: And Just Like That We Own Two Kayaks
1. Between the New River Bike Trail and Fairy Stone Lake Park, we spent most of the weekend with ‘no signal.’
2. Dragonflies are the lake’s version of butterflies.
3. I’m always surprised when women wear clothes the same color as their skin, which makes them look naked from a distance.
4. A Sunday ride with our matching hats. Actually, not only did we have “no signal” in Pulaski and then Stuart, but there were several downpour showers, and we were waiting for one to stop so we could put our kayaks in Fairy Stone Lake.
5. I wasn’t in over my head but I was waist deep. Sunflower Sunday HERE.
7. Is the movie Barbie the female version of Toy Story?
8. Boomerang moon. It comes back every month.
9. I didn’t want to sing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ so we sang a little chorus of ‘I’ll Be Working on the Railroad’ as we biked across the old railway bridge in the New River State Park.
10. Going native. Tiger lilies, butterfly weed, blazing stars, bee balm and baby bears HERE.
11. My poem about sunflowers is actually dark: I can’t stand to see them droop / Faces hung like lamps bent over / Their lights are out / Their shame is as drastic / as their joy was in August / They burn at both ends…
12. In a letter to his brother Theo, Van Gogh wrote: “The sunflower is mine.” At his funeral, his relatives held sunflowers in their hands.
13. Yada Yada or Yackety-yak?

It’s always a pleasure to read your TT on Wednesday.
Also to remember all your blog friends that became mine as well in 2005!
I didn’t realize Barbie was the female version of Toy Story. I don’t even want to see it and I loved my Barbie and all dolls for that matter.

Those were the days when blogs were blogs! The Toy story reference was more of a joke question: boy dolls, girl dolls.

Many women seem to be finding affirmation in the Barbie movie; it’s rated PG-13 and from what I’ve read it’s more for those who are 40+ than children. The Atlantic had a story on it that indicated it’s quite the commentary on the power of women and the prison of the patriarchy.

I read those reviews, not made for kids. Now I’m working on a Barbie poem!

I first heard yada yada on Seinfeld.
