Sweet Sunday Send-off @Floydfest 2024
Sunday’s send-off from Floydfest 2024 began for me with a John Prine tribute and sing-along with friends at the Canopy Grove Stage.

I arrived late afternoon for the fourth day of celebrating. I was tired and thinking I was going to hang back, but an impromptu hangout with some old friends, mixed with John Prine’s deeply touching and humorous songs proved to be some heartfelt fun that brought my energy level back.
Then another dear friend who we hadn’t seen in a few years appeared unexpectedly.

We couldn’t have planned it better!

All that brought my energy level up to a point that I was able to dance for more than an hour straight with some old and new friends to Charlie Crockett.

Who knew? I had listened to all the song clips on the Floydfest webpage and made a starred list of performers I wanted to check out, and he was on it, but I had no idea how entertaining and danceable his music was, and how genuine he was.

“When I started out, they called me a folk singer… These days they call me Country, and I’m proud of that, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret: this thing that I do – it ain’t nothing but the blues.” And he showed up what he was talking about.
They also call him a “stylistic chameleon,” he told us. “I guess I’ll always be a cult artist. That means I do whatever I damn please.”

He did folk, country, blues, a jitterbug number, and even had a few Elvis moves.

Between the Prine show (performed by the Tree of Forgiveness Band), Charlie Crockett, and the energy shared with friends, it was a sweet send-off to this year’s Floydfest, one that I wasn’t expecting. See you all next year!
