The 13 Drive-by
1. When Donald Trump looks at a half-filled glass of water, he doesn’t see it half-full or half-empty, he sees his own reflection.
2. When Joe calls me sweet pea, I call him QT.
3. Whenever I say “hammock time” (which we had a lot of at Floydfest), a little voice in the back of my head says, “hammer time.” See HERE.
4. Ever since I saw that oversized flamingo blow-up float at the pool and didn’t take a picture of it, I’ve been craving a good blow-up flamingo sighting, so it was a happy surprise when I came across the photo-op above at Floydfest.
5. Butterflies and boys (sons and grandsons) made my heart flutter at Floydfest on Saturday. We lounged on a giant rubber duckie after watching a juggler swallow fire and balance a chair on his head. -More Floydfest Family Time HERE.
6. In the VIP tent, we watched a woman get a pie in the face while trying to win a lottery ticket challenge. I found my Floyd dance friend StarRoot (who also had an art booth on site) and we danced a few songs to Gote, just one of the bands that our friend John McBroom is in. We tasted some out-of-this-world moonshine handcrafted in Floyd by our friend Kerry Underwood from Five Mile Mountain Distillery. Vanilla Plum Dreamcycle and Elderberry Lemonade. Not your grandfather’s moonshine! – More from “Not Your Grandmother’s Thursday at Floydfest HERE.
7. These recent posts in our Floyd group Facebook page says it all about Floyd country living: Cows out on Union School Rd. Just about a mile up from 221. Be careful / Does anyone have any extra fresh dill that we can barter for? / Can anyone tell me if the laundromat has a super big washer that can accommodate a giant king sized quilted bedspread?/ Does anyone have a small plastic kiddie pool they are looking to get rid of. My ducks need a small pool as theirs was hit by the lawn / Is there anyone locally who teaches Transcendental meditation? / FREE CANNING JARS!
8. I saw a poster identifying different ticks on Facebook and the last one was of Donald Trump with the words “luna tick” under it.
9. THIS is a very interesting test that rates how liberal or conservative you are using a surprising and non-political list of questions.
10. First there was The Long and Winding Road,” “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?” and “Abbey Road” by the Beatles. Now the remaining two Beatles have just worked on a song for Ringo’s new album called “We’re on the Road Again (as in not On the Road Again). Listen HERE.
11. Before there was a pink flamingo there was a pink blow-up raft: A pink blow-up raft floated into my consciousness during a recent therapy session. “When’s the first time you thought of a pink raft?” my therapist asked with interest. We both recognized that the raft was a visual signpost, but where would it lead? I would have to reflect on its meaning. – Read the rest of The Pink Raft HERE.
12. I never posted the poem about the pink raft in its entirety, but I’m thinking that I will soon. It starts: I want a pink blow-up raft / to drift carefree on / in a body of water I belong to / Not like a stone that skips in and out / and plummets to the bottom when it’s done / I want a pink raft more / than a girl wants a Barbie doll / or a pink poodle skirt of quilted satin …
13. At Floydfest, I got a crush on Marty Stuart, an elder at the top of his game, during the final headlining main stage show. And by elder I don’t mean an “old person” in any way. I mean, the man had black leather pants on! Sporting long hair, he looked a little like the Bon Jovi of country. Later, while looking at old pictures of him on the internet with dark hair, I thought he looked like a young David Cassidy, so it’s no wonder about the crush. And was that a country Keith Richards playing lead guitar by his side? After the show, I ran into the lead guitarist, who Stuart kept calling “Cuz.” “Are you really his cousin?” I asked. Nope. – From Floydfest Sunday with a Cherry on Top HERE. Video HERE.

Number 1 was excellent: “1. When Donald Trump looks at a half-filled glass of water, he doesn’t see it half-full or half-empty, he sees his own reflection.”
Number 8 was almost as good: “8. I saw a poster identifying different ticks on Facebook and the last one was of Donald Trump with the words ‘luna tick’ under it.”

The first one was inspired or paraphrased by something that conservative William Buckley said about Trump long ago.

I’ve been vicariously vacationing in Floyd lately, thanks to your photoposts. I’ve been sharing them with My Beloved Sandra, who seems to think that when she joins me in retirement in a couple more years, we’ll be moving to, um, somewhere else. Unfortunately, she seems to be advocating for (ick) beachfronts.
Luna Tick indeed.

I took the test and it was not right for me. Or at least, not as I see myself, anyway. Maybe I just have a queasy stomach.

My answer was that I’d be more Democrat if it wasn’t for that rat! As it was, I came in 53 percent and 47 percent Republican. In other words, independent or moderate/centrist.

Took the quiz in #9 — my brain is way over on the liberal side, no surprise! I noticed that several of the questions were about your reaction to things you’d see other people doing (not what you’d do yourself necessarily) … so that’s fine, they can eat their apples with a chopstick if they want to … it doesn’t bother me!! But the Republicans would want to legislate against it if it wasn’t how they were brought up.
