A 13 Serving
1. Over the weekend, we had brunch with some visiting family members at The Parkway Grille. It was so good and we ate so much that someone in the group called it “blinner,” meaning a combination of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
2. Meanwhile, with all the snow we’ve had so far this March, my friend Eydie asked on Facebook, ‘So, what do you think is a better name for the transitional phase to true spring—“sprinter” or “wing”?
3. We also went to a St. Patrick’s Day house concert at the Bella La Vita Inn over the weekend. Yes, I wore green. I had a home brewed stout, some Irish soda bread and a sip of green grog. We saw a rainbow and Jim Sharkey, the featured musician who hails from County Roscommon, Ireland, took THIS request from me.
4. The math equals orphans / like laundry on a line / with no clothespins to hold us / Now I am the oldest / but 3rd in the line / and separated by one / from the other five – From the The Sum of Parts, a poem about being one of nine siblings and losing three of us. Read the poem in its entirety HERE.
5. Losing three siblings, it’s like when you cut your long hair off then comb through your short hair and the comb drops down and falls through the air.
6. I don’t l like a long music jams like I don’t like car chases in movies. They go on too long when I just want to get back to the story.
7. Food played a big part in our week long Florida vacation. We had French cuisine prepared by a Parisian, traditional Thai food made from scratch, juicy burgers with craft brews and the best coleslaw I’ve ever eaten (Mad Brewery), Spanish food at the Salvador Dali café, and Sushi (more than once).
8. Watching the sun go down at the beach, Joe says “Make a wish.” “You know what I wish for,” I answered. “It’s the same wish every time.” See what it is HERE.
9. One of the staffers at the Chihuly Collection, showed me how to look at the work piece-by-piece and not just as a whole. She pointed out a glass angel and a nautilus shell. Glass flowers seemed to be sprouting up everywhere… More from Chihuly Finally HERE.
10. Then, I got disorientated after viewing all the surreal art with double images, optical illusions and symbolism at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. With names like Exploding Raphaelesque Head, The Hallucinogenic Toreador, Portrait of my dead brother and The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory, I’m not surprised that by the time we ordered some Spanish cuisine at the museum café, I was sure that the menu was printed upside down when it wasn’t. – More HERE.
11. I recently saw a picture of the Van Gogh self-portrait with the bandage wrapped around his head and thought that maybe Dali’s “Pope’s Ear” might have actually be Vincent’s.
12. I like not making sense. See HERE.
13. I call the photo below “The Last Supper” because it was our last meal at the beach.
