13: A Trifecta of Forsythia

1. Last year at this time, I wrote: The forsythia surrounds me like warm bowls of sun.

2. This year, we have a young male cardinal in the yard that has been repeatedly banging into our living room window.

3. The fact that he likes to bang against our windows is worrisome and bothersome, but it also has made the bird easier to photograph.

4. I call the below photo, Kicking Winter to the Curb. It was taken four years ago.

5. I actually hurt my back that day by showing off on the trampoline for my grandsons.

6. The only way my name Colleen could be more Irish is if I added an O’ as the first letter. Check out Cutting a Rug @Party and Pub for St. Patty’s 2024 HERE.

7. Flowers are fragile / They’re pretty and they mean well / But they don’t last long in vases / And they  don’t last long on kitchen tables / They wilt in the absence / of their untamed source… Read Our Flowers in its entirety HERE.

8. I failed with that poem because most of the comments I got assumed that I was writing about only flowers, when in reality I was writing about being uprooted and about the effects of early childhood abandonment.

9. I found something on the internet that said to color lines on your windows with soap so birds won’t bang into them, but that didn’t deter our rascal cardinal.

10. So, I put a plastic owl near the window, but it had no effect either.

11. But the woodpecker at the feeder did scare the cardinal and caused it to fly away!

12. I was reading on a friend’s Facebook page that the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership award was to honor Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch until Ginsburg’s family complained and they cancelled the ceremony. “That’s as bad as Trump giving Rush Limbaugh the Medal of Honor,” I commented on the page, and I almost typed the “Medal of Horror.”

13. Last year at this time, I also wrote: With the flick of a switch the daffodils are lit.

People never understand what you mean when you write things for public consumption. Just look at any social media comments. People miss the point all the time. Sadly.

Hey Coll, Isn’t the above comment wild! It’s like what we were talking about yesterday!
Also, I want to say that red cardinal is most likely Daddo! Or anyone of our family members watching over us – cardinals are a visit from heaven!
Oh and #12 should have been a medal of horror ! What a disgrace Trump did when he presented that to Rush Limbaugh. It was more of Trumps disrespect for the office of the president!

Cardinal is our state bird and they live in my yard. It’s a young male and it’s spring. He thinks he sees a another males competing for the females. I think of dad all the time when I birdwatch because he was a a birdwatcher too.

Cover the window with cloth or something if the bird comes back. I have put books in the window to block the reflection in the past. I know they can knock themselves loopy hitting the glass sometimes.
