My Favorite KIND of Fun

It was The Kind’s 39th anniversary show and all the current and past band members mixed it up.
Dancing to The Kind at South Main Café in Blacksburg was some of Joe’s and my first dates, and the band’s 39th anniversary nearly coincides with Joe’s and my anniversary of meeting, which was 38 years ago.

All my dance buddies came out in full force.
Jam is a sweet thing… Life may be sweeter for this… Feels like it might be alright… while Lady Lullaby sings plainly for you… Love still rings true…
My friend Susanna (center) referred to the dance party as her Spring Break. I explained to a nearby friend that Susanna was not a college student (which she could pass for), but a teacher.

If you put The Kind in my blog search bar lots of history and fun stuff will come up with titles like I’m Proud of the Blisters I Got Dancing to The Kind on New Year’s Eve, JOE GETS A KIND BIRTHDAY, My KIND of Halloween and We’re Deadicated!

It was the first time the band played at Dogtown, since their longtime home base in Floyd, The Pine Tavern Restaurant and Pavilion, sadly closed down.

In 2011 I covered the band’s 25th anniversary for The Floyd Press, which started: The Kind, celebrated its 25-year milestone anniversary at the Pine Tavern pavilion Saturday night. This popular jam band has a following of fans from all over the New River Valley and Roanoke, including many from Floyd and some who have been attending gigs since the band first started playing weekly at the onetime South Main Café in Blacksburg… Described on their webpage as “Hillbilly Psychedelic Folk Rock,” the band specializes in Grateful Dead cover songs, but they also play the music of other iconic bands and musicians, such as Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, and The Band.

I love the dancers as much as the band and love to take pictures and video clips so I can relive the fun for days after.
