13: Call Me

1. I lost my phone at Floydfest twice! On Friday it was returned to Lost and Found in the first 10 minutes!

2. Saturday I was home and it was midnight before I realized I couldn’t find it and it didn’t ring when I called it.

3. It spent the night on the post by the hammock that my son Josh and I were swinging in that evening. Joe pulled up the Apple Find My Phone App Sunday morning and verified that it was at Floydfest.  He went to the site early because he does a meditation workshop and found it right were someone left it when they wanted to swing in the hammock and moved it from there.

4. My son Josh got a text asking ‘who’s phone is this?’

5. When your gone / I’ll talk to myself / I’ll watch the view / and make long lists / of things I could do / But maybe I’ll make plans / only to break them / I’ll put my passwords in a lock box / and give my thrift shop clothes / to thrift shops / I’ll grow out my bangs / and buy a new bathrobe / I’ll leave my phone / far from home / call it from the land line / and see who picks up…Read my poem When You’re Gone in its entirety HERE.

6. My fingers are clumsy and slip when I’m typing or texting and I end up at places I don’t mean to be, and I still don’t know what cookies are when I’m online internet sleuthing.

7. Whenever I don’t know exactly what it is I’m doing and it borders on wasting my time, I call it research. ‘Dear Abby, How can I get rid of freckles?’ was my first published piece at the age of 11.

8. This video was taken with a phone (thanks Joe). The Children’s Universe parade, one of my favorite Floydfest traditions, marched right past Phelps Pottery booth where my son Josh was eating breakfast.

9. He also sent me this one of Greensky Bluegrass playing, texting, “I know how you love a good lightshow.”

10. This is my message to you. Zion Marley, grandson of legendary reggae icon Bob Marley, carried on his family’s reggae tradition, performing reggae on the Oasis stage. Zion is the son of Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley’s son Rohan Marley.

11. I’m going to Dogtown Roadhouse on this Saturday to Dance to The Kind on Jerry Garcia’s birthday. I’m really looking forward to a dance floor after dancing outside at Floydfest and on a couple of hills.

12. Poetry is Unlisted–  Poetry pings / but doesn’t pick up / It can’t be tracked / and doesn’t call back / Sometimes it pocket-dials / as an unknown caller / whose voicemail you listen to / over and over…

13. My new affirmation:  Don’t make it happen. Let it happen.
