"A blog is to a writer what a canvas is to an artist." ~ Colleen Redman

13: Whose Turn?

1. Scrabble is a practice of accepting reality and making the next best move you can with the letters you have to work with.

2. Every Scrabble board, like every day, is a blank slate when you start out.

3. The Next Thing You Go Out For: Do you want to go to it because you think you might miss out on something or because you think people might miss out on seeing you?

4. Things Are Looking Up.

5. My friend Ash posted on Facebook after the eclipse: We tried but we didn’t get beamed up.

6. I only saw the beginning of the eclipse where the sun looked like it had a bite taken out of it. And then a wall of cloud cover came in.

7. “I love that I got a 7-word bingo on my first Scrabble play this week. The word was “eclipse,” which reminded me that I saw the solar eclipse in August 2017 while on a boat with my sister and brother-in-law and as we were watching a boat name “Eclipse” went by. It wasn’t much, just some eerie lighting like a midday bright dusk.  See The Eclipse boat HERE.

8. My skin thins translucent / like frosted glass on a night sky view / where a veil is lifting / on an obscured constellation / that tracks the arc of life / It landmarks the ages / as my form is rearranging / diffusing before it passes / before the soul eclipses / the body’s last remains – Read my poem “Eclipse” in its entirety HERE.

9. “The stars are like letters that inscribe themselves at every moment in the sky. Everything in the world is full of signs. All events are coordinated. All things depend on each other. Everything breathes together.” -Greek philosopher Plotinus

10. “Redman described her writer’s style as “nutty professor,” working from a notebook and off scraps of paper, and dropping anything she is doing when a line pops in her head. “The muse of my inner life has an authority I can’t ignore. I write to know what I’m thinking and feeling,” she said.” – From Defining Poetry, The Floyd Press newspaper. More HERE.

11. HERE I am in the ballroom wearing a gym suit.

12. Thanks to Frank D’Amico for videotaping the C. C. Coates band at Dogtown Friday night HERE. It’s fun to see us dancing and relive the soulful grooves.

13. World Without a Songbird – An unjust sentence / A prison of silence / A dead dream / in a graveyard / of lost delight – Read the full poem HERE.
